It’s not too often that we come across stories of individuals who take the role of a leader, mentor and idol at a very young age. In this story, we feature Xiang “Leo” Liu, a 14-year-old immigrant who has only been in America for around a year and a half, but his achievements can serve as an inspiration to people of all ages.
To start with, Leo is the founder, Director and CEO of Super Meteors, a basketball club in the Amateur Athletic Association (AAU). In its ethos, the club believes that everyone deserves to play if they work hard. The club participates in various tournaments in and out of Massachusetts.
In addition, Liu is a young author whose recently published work, “A World Split in Two: Generational Division”, is a thought-provoking, insightful, and well-written book that takes on the classic problem of conflict between generations and provides a new solution to it. Liu’s passion and commitment to finding a solution to what he describes as ‘Generational Division’ make this book an engaging and inspiring read. Whether you are a member of Gen Z or an older generation, this book is guaranteed to challenge your thinking and offer a fresh perspective on a timeless issue.
Liu is also a TEDx speaker, whose talk on ‘Building Connections Between Generations’ at TEDxEustis addresses the same problem of ‘Generational Division’ from the perspective of both the younger and older generations.
For 2023, Liu has taken up the additional responsibility as the head organizer of TEDxYouth@ElliotStreet, the first-ever public TEDxYouth event to be held in Newton, Massachusetts that aims to give young people a platform to express their ideas and share their stories. With a diverse staff from around the world, the event promises to provide an inclusive and equitable platform for young people. The lineup of speakers is also predominantly young, allowing for a unique and fresh perspective on various issues and topics.
TEDxYouth@ElliotStreet is expected to be held on April 22, 2023.
